What is solution-focused hypnotherapy?
Solution-focused hypnotherapy is a science-backed talking therapy modality.
It uses hypnosis or “trance” in combination with psychotherapy techniques in order to support clients in taking positive, practical steps forward in their lives.
When solution-focused hypnotherapists use hypnosis or “trance”, they guide clients towards accessing a state of relaxation in which the mind can focus more clearly on positive thoughts.
Often, hypnosis might be most familiar to people via the work of stage hypnotists, who “make” people quack like a duck, or do other silly things “against their will”.
For this reason, it’s important to note that solution-focused hypnotherapists cannot make a client do anything against their will when in a “trance” state. It’s more accurate to understand “trance” as something much more everyday - we go into this state when we watch a tv programme, or when we drive a regular route.
“Trance” is a state of focused concentration that can be particularly helpful when used in partnership with psychotherapy to work with clients who might need support with issues including:
anxiety
depression
phobias
insomnia
pain
smoking cessation/vaping cessation
Solution-focused hypnotherapy differs from other talking therapy modalities, in that it focuses positively on the client’s future aims (the solution), rather than focussing strongly onthe issue that motivated the client to seek therapy (the problem).
Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training is widely regarded as the Gold Standard training provider in this talking therapy modality. Ciara’s training with CPHT is rigorous, giving her a strong grounding in the neuroscience which backs up the efficacy of hypnotherapy, as well as practical experience of working with clients.
